After-School Enrichment Programs
Sunnyside offers a variety of fee-based Enrichment Programs after school to add to your child's education, development, and fun-quotient. Enrollment forms will be sent out through our Wednesday Envelope. Please contact program directors for more detailed information and costs.
Little Sunshine Art Club Grades K-2 Wednesdays 2:40-3:40 p.m. Instructor: Meg Sandine Contact Info: 415.424.0846; [email protected] This fun and engaging class builds art skills, awareness, enthusiasm, individual expression and much more. Within a framework of support young students are encouraged to grow artistically. We work on both short and long range projects that encompass a wide variety of materials and techniques. Meg Sandine has been teaching art for 18 years and has been at Sunnyside for 6 years. Little Sunshine Art Club Grades 3-5 Wednesdays 4-5 p.m., starting 9/11/13 Instructor: Meg Sandine Students enrolled in aftercare will be escorted to and from art club. Math Club: 1-2 Thursday 2.40 to 3.50pm. Instructor: Rhiana Maidenberg Starting date tentative - 9/11/13 The club will explore project-based (rather than skill-based) learning focusing on problem solving, estimation, and geometry. Each week we will explore a different common core standard, through real life applications such as cooking, interior design, and architecture. Tuition is $150 for the semester, and all proceeds will go directly to the PTA. Rhiana holds a masters in secondary math education, and has taught everything from 6th grade math through pre-calculus. She currently focuses on making math relevant to the younger grades. She is also the PTA treasurer. Come and explore creativity and design through Legos. Every week kids will experience an exciting new project - build a spaceship, skyscraper, free play, etc. The kids will be encouraged to create whatever they want based on the theme. Each child will be given the opportunity to do show-and-tell with their creation to the class. Sunnyside's Lego Club was started in 2010 by a very dedicated Mom and team of parents. It continues to be parent-run and is always looking for more parent volunteers. Our athletes will learn a new sport every two weeks which includes Basketball, Tennis, Lacrosse, Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball, Golf, Baseball, etc. Our focus is to educate out athletes on anatomy, physiology and nutrition in a fun and interesting way. We want them to be armed with the knowledge they need to live healthy, active lives. Each student receives personalized attention and encouragement while participating in our class activities. All classes are taught by a Certified Personal Trainer. Piano with Keyboard Educators Wednesdays 2:40-3:50 p.m. Instructor: Rosalyn Senkbeil Contact Info: [email protected] Piano with Keyboard Educators offers a complete piano course to all children grades Kindergarten thru 5th grade. Children learn to play the piano one on one and also learn theory. They learn to read music and write music... not just play the piano. It's a wonderful piano course... children have fun and learn piano at the same time. Important NoteChildren enrolled in the YMCA and TRU may also participate in these Enrichment Programs for an additional fee. Children enrolled in EXCEL are required to be in the EXCEL program all day and may not attend these Enrichment programs. However, the YMCA, EXCEL, and TRU have many enrichment activities included as part of their programs. Please contact these programs directly for more details.
