Aftercare Options

Starting in the 2016-17 school year, Sunnyside will offer a single aftercare program to support families, operated jointly by BACR and the YMCA. The program will offer many after-school enrichment programs, as well as academic support, structured physical activities, and free play.

Schedule

The Aftercare program runs from 2:40 - 6:00 p.m. with the following schedule:
2:40-3:00 p.m.:  Check in & snack
3:00-4:00 p.m.:  Enrichments
4:00-4:30 p.m.:  Recreational activities
4:30-5:30 p.m.:  Homework
5:30-5:45 p.m.:  Small groups & reflection circle
5:45-6:00 p.m.:  Table top/reading/closing

Enrichments

​Enrichments happen in 2 sessions per semester and may include Martial Arts, Play Rugby, Sunshine Art Club, Chinese Language Class, Play-Well TEKnologies (LEGO), Academic Chess, Mad Science, Sprouts cooking club, Sol Gym, and Oceans Afterschool/Oceanography. 
All students enrolled in the Aftercare program will receive enrichments at no additional cost. Each student will choose which enrichment they would like to participate in before the start of each session. Students not enrolled in the Sunnyside Aftercare program will be able to register for enrichments for a fee.

​The first day of enrichment (session 1) will be on Tuesday, September 6th.

Fees

Fees vary based on number of days/week and YMCA membership level. Contact the Mission YMCA at 240-8397 for more information about the program, fees, and scholarships. Or contact Program Director Lariece Williams at [email protected]. 

Subsidized Slots

There are a limited number of subsidized slots for the Aftercare program. The requirement to be considered for a subsidized slot is a commitment that the child must attend the after-school program 5 days/week and stay until 5:45 p.m. 

Priority for subsidized slots will be given based on:
  • Returning ExCEL students
  • Students who are identified by the school’s administrative staff and teachers as potentially benefiting from academic support after school.
  • Annual household income
  • Financial & demonstrated need
  • Free & reduced lunch eligibility

Registration

Registration to Sunnyside Aftercare program:
Enrollment in the Sunnyside Aftercare program begins on April 5, 2016.You can download the enrollment packet here.
Once completed and signed, please send it via email to [email protected] or by mail at 4080 Mission St SF, CA 94112 Attn: Becky Chen or in person at Mission YMCA, located at 4080 Mission Street.
The Sunnyside Aftercare program will do its best to accommodate all students. 

Registration to Enrichments:
Enrichment registration will begin on the first day of school and end on August 31, 2016.  You can download the enrichment registration form here. 
Enrichments are included (free of extra charge) for families registered to the Sunnyside Aftercare program. Enrichments fees must be paid for families not registered to the Sunnyside Aftercare program. Families can come to the Mission YMCA, located at 4080 Mission Street, to register and submit payment. They will also be able to submit their registrations in person, however all payments will need to be made at the Mission YMCA.

Sunnyside Before-care: 7:30 - 8:40 a.m. 

The Mission YMCA operates its program for Sunnyside students before school from 7:30 - 8:40 a.m. All students enrolled in Aftercare may enroll to Before-care for a small additional monthly fee. Any student may opt to enroll in and pay for Before-care alone.
